The Lovebug Turns 7 Months!

 Saturday, January 17, 2009

Can you believe it's been 7 months since our lives were totally changed? Yeah me either! Our princess is growing so fast and is doing new things every week. She mimics when we squeal or make loud noises, she reaches for everything in sight, and she is determined to try to feed herself no matter if it is a baba or a spoonful of food. She sits up for longer periods of time, rolls over instead of doing tummy time and leans/reaches for me when she wants to be comforted and someone else is holding her.

This month our goals are to make it to a Las Madres playdate, swim lessons and possibly Gymboree. I think we can do it.

Homemade Baby Food

 Friday, January 16, 2009

We heard that making baby food was super easy so after reading a couple books from the library, P and I took on the challenge. We started off with green beans and sweet potatoes, not the tastiest of foods but perfect for Amaya who needs to eat something other than avocado. We boiled and steamed the food and then pureed it in our electric chopper. Then we froze the food in ice trays because 3 ice cubes equals about a small jar of baby food. Works for us!

Mash it up

Into the trays it goes!

Paul is a master at chopping

All done!

Auntie Nana thinks that red is Amaya's color. I tend to agree :)

Playdate at our house!

 Saturday, January 10, 2009

Last Monday Amaya and I hosted a playdate at our casa. She loved seeing her friend Jennifer and even got to say hi to Maddie who is still baking in Renee's tummy. She was so cute, placing her hands on Renee's belly, maybe it was a silent language between babies. I tried to ask Amaya about it but she just smiled. ;)

Amaya Eats Avocado

 Thursday, January 8, 2009

Over our holiday break we gave Amaya avocado to try out since Grammie was insisting that she was ready to eat solids. Amaya did so great and ate a lot of the portion we prepared for her. She kept giving us really weird looks but was anticipating the spoon! She managed to get it from Daddy a couple of times and tried to feed herself but she also made a bit of a mess. Funny girl.

New Year New Beginnings

 Saturday, January 3, 2009

We spent New Years Eve very quietly just the three of us. It truly felt like the calm before the storm.

I'm not sorry to see 2008 go but I admit, it's taught me some important lessons. It had been such a tumultuous year. We welcomed Amaya into the world after a chaotic labor. I learned that physically and emotionally I'm stronger than I ever thought I could be. Sadly we also lost some important people (RIP Connie and Michael). This taught me that life is so sacred and you have to not sweat the small stuff because you never know what's around the corner. I learned that being a mom and going to school is tougher than I was prepared for. But that nothing will stand in the way of me fulfilling my dreams. I learned that family and money do not mix. I learned that not everyone may agree with my parenting of Amaya but that their feelings don't matter at all. I learned that I can rely on people I had doubts about before.

In 2009 I have a few goals I'd like to meet. But before I get there I had to do some housecleaning, meaning I had to seriously think about the people that I wanted in my life. It's important that I teach Amaya to have self respect and confidence. To not let anyone make her feel inferior and not to be caught up in life's petty dramas. To speak up when she feels walked on and to walk away from toxic people who only think about themselves.

These are lessons that I'm learning for myself. I hope I can pass on to her that there is nothing wrong with a warrior woman who stands up for herself and for her to strive for that. That even though I'm her mom, I am her biggest supporter and I will always try to stop, breathe, listen and support her as best I can. I owe her to be the best mom I can be. She deserves it.

And with that, on we go.
