Halloween 2009

 Saturday, October 31, 2009

We had a busy day planned today and started off with a wonderful breakfast Daddy made of turkey sausage, french toast and coffee.

We ran a few errands to finish up Amaya's costume and then went home for a quick nap. Three hours later we realized that we were not going to able to meet our friends for a fun halloween event so we went to Grammie's house for our traditional pumpkin carving session. We ended up staying there after further plans fell through and had a great time!

Amaya trick or treated at 5 houses, got a few pieces of candy that Daddy and Mommy promptly ate and finished the night off with some delicious brownies.

Mommy and Daddy spend the rest of the night cuddled under a blanket watching The Witches.

Perfect Halloween!

Pumpkin Patch by Grammie's House

 Wednesday, October 21, 2009

I really like Giordano's small pumpkin patch because it has acres of pumpkins and is hardly ever crowded because it doesn't have the frills of the Half Moon Bay patches. I think Amaya was ok with that and just wanted to run free and check out all the different pumpkins and gourds.

A Visit to the HMB Pumpkin Patch

 Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Here in the Bay Area, Halloween means driving to the cities that have lots of open space and picking out pumpkins. Paul and I were excited to take Amaya to Half Moon Bay to have the whole pumpkin experience since this small coastal town is famous for their Pumpkin festival and organic farms. Amaya had lots of fun running around the pumkpin patches, picked out her own little mini pumpkin, was gifted a pumpkin at Sam's Famous Restaurant and promptly fell asleep on the ride home. Phew, what a day!

It's All Over!

 Thursday, October 8, 2009

I'm on week three of no breasfeeding. Amaya hasn't asked for it, signed for it, nothing! She happily drinks her "wa wa" (milk in a sippy) and has been asking for that ever since I stopped nursing her before bed and when she woke up in the morning.

We made it to 15 months which I am incredibly proud of. My major problem was the fact that since her birth was so traumatic to my body, my milk took nearly 3 weeks to come in. Once she was getting sustained the actual feedings were a peice of cake. But I remember crying every single day that I had no milk to give her.

Before the weaning process I was really feeling like it was time to start giving her more milk. Amaya's 15 month appoitment in which she did make her weight goal really made it clear that she needed more calories and to transition to Whole Cows Milk. The process wasn't easy. She would cry and reach her arms out to me and practically beg to nurse. Not to mention I got more than one comment about still nursing her which of course is no one's darn business.

Ironically, it just seemed like the minute I stopped fighting breastfeeding, Amaya weaned herself. I feel so conflicted, I miss the cuddling and the quiet time. I made it to 15 months and what was one of the most hardest tear inducing yet rewarding thing I've ever done.

And now it's all over.

Why I Blog

 Friday, October 2, 2009

First entry in Liz's blog challenge!

From the minute I found out I was pregnant I wanted to blog and document every aspect of this epic journey. It's cathartic for me and even though sometimes I censor myself, I want Amaya to look back at this time and know that her mom and dad wanted to document their feelings, whether they be high or low.

Blogging opened up a world of communication for us. It's helped family members keep in tough with us, it represents a journal and it's a virtual scrapbook of the things we do as a family. It's attention whoring at it's best, I love when people leave comments and it makes me feel loved!

I feel like anytime I post something from my soul I get such nice responses because let be honest, it's always nice to know that someone else else is going through the same challenging thing you are.
